Invitation to the Special Exhibition and Events at Portalen Greve
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the opening reception of the art exhibition “The Journey of Light” by the artist collective Artluminis, founded by Ina Wittbold and Mette Hansgaard, created in collaboration with the research team from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Aarhus University, led by Professor Hans Kjeldsen.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, 22 August 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Portalen Greve, in collaboration with the Køge Bugt Art Association.
Opening hours during the exhibition:
Fridays: 4:00–6:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 1:00–4:00 p.m.
The exhibition is a tribute to Ole Rømer’s groundbreaking discovery of the speed of light and an exploration of how this scientific achievement continues to inspire contemporary research and future discoveries. Through paintings, watercolours, and sculptures, the exhibition presents an artistic universe inspired by the light of the cosmos and by the seismic-like oscillations measured when astronomers search for exoplanets and signs of life beyond our Solar System. The artworks explore the dynamic relationship between art and science, inviting visitors to experience the beauty of both disciplines.

Join artists Mette Hansgaard and Ina Wittbold for an Artist Talk from 2:00–3:00 p.m., where they will introduce the exhibition and share the inspiration, ideas, and creative processes behind their works.

Friday, 4 September 2026 – Culture Night:
Art, Astronomy, Virtual Reality & Opera
Culture Night at Portalen Greve offers a unique fusion of art, astronomy, and music.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience astronomical observations through Virtual Reality, bringing the night sky above Australia directly into Portalen Greve.
At 7:00 p.m., the artists will give a short introduction to the exhibition.
At 7:15 p.m., Associate Professor Karsten Frank Brogaard from Aarhus University will present a lecture on astronomy, exoplanet research, and the technologies that make these observations possible.
The evening concludes with a beautiful star-themed opera aria, performed by soprano Maleen Lundvig.
